Save¶
When you first navigate to SearchKit, you will see a list of Saved Searches in the system.
Description¶
There are two types of Saved Searches: “Custom Searches” and “Packaged Searches.” Packaged Searches are predefined searches that come out-of-the-box with SearchKit or get installed from an extension, though they can be modified or cloned for your specific use case. Packaged Searches have the entity pre-selected and relevant data field columns added.
When you create a “New Search” you can save it for later use by you or other users.
Enter a descriptive title to succinctly convey the purpose of the search.
Before clicking Save, it is often helpful to navigate to “Configure Settings” in the left-side menu to add a description of the search, tags to help locate the search (for example, by Department or Staff person) and a date when the Search will expire.
Once you click Save, the search will be available from the SearchKit landing page, displaying the Title, Description, For (the primary entity searched for), Tags, as well as the timestamp and user that created or last modified the search.
After you save the search, you can change most of these values by editing the search by clicking on the pencil to its right. However, once saved, you cannot change the entity for the search. For example, if you create a new search for “Contributions” and click “Save,” you cannot edit the search and change it to “Contacts.”
From the SearchKit Landing page of Saved Searches you can take the following actions on Saved Searches:
- Edit
- View Results - Learn more about Actions you can take on your search results.
- Clone - This will duplicate the settings and selections of your existing Search to efficiently create a variation of the search.
- Export - Search configuration can be copied from here, then pasted into "Import" to e.g. transfer between sites. To package for distribution in an extension, see the Developer documentation at API Explorer Export -- NEED TO CHECK THE LINK URL!
